Thanksgiving Drive
The primary purpose of the holiday of Thanksgiving is to celebrate the harvest and the abundance of food that the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Native Americans originally shared in 1621. However, many people are not able to share these festivities over a big meal because they are unable to purchase Thanksgiving Day food items. No one should go without a delicious meal on a holiday that revolves around eating with family and friends. It is important to be thankful for the food that you have in front of you because others are not so blessed.
On the UWGMC homepage, you may have noticed the Thanksgiving drive that we are organizing with Mercer Street Friends Food Bank. Our goal is to provide as many families as possible with a Thanksgiving meal that will bring them the joy that we continuously feel during this holiday. However, we need your help in order to fulfill this goal. All you need to do is print out the shopping list that we have provided for you, and fill up a basket with each item. When your baskets are completed, arrange for them to be delivered to Mercer Street Friends Food Bank. We all deserve to be thankful for something, so let us give others something delicious to be thankful for. For additional information and a shopping list, click here.
Donating your time to assist with food drives, working in a soup kitchen during the holiday, or decorating for Thanksgiving festivities is another way to bring joy to those in need. No matter where in the country you are, you can always contact your local organizations that are planning Thanksgiving drives or events, and inquire about lending a hand! Bring your family and friends along to celebrate the holiday in an original and valuable way. For more information on volunteering within Mercer County visit our volunteer page here.

For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.”
