Message From the President

Dear Friends,

United Way of Greater Mercer County is committed to making meaningful, measurable differences in the lives of everyone in our community. On behalf of our Board of Trustees, Staff and countless volunteers, I thank you for investigating how you can get involved.

United Way of Greater Mercer County is best able to address the most pressing problems facing our residents by capitalizing on our unique role as an integrator between the public, private and nonprofit sectors. Our organization brings together a variety of partners—people and organizations who bring the passion, expertise and resources needed to get things done. We emerged from FYE 2011 with ambitious goals and a clear, focused direction, and in FYE 2012 we have begun to implement new strategies in our Action Areas—Education, Income, Health while strengthening Mercer County Nonprofits. We are committed to focusing on outcomes, addressing the underlying root causes of our most pressing issues while simultaneously making sure people get the short-term help they need.

Thanks to the exceptional generosity of our donors and the outstanding commitment of our partners and volunteers, hundreds of Mercer County Residents benefited from United Way’s community engagement. We continued our work providing a strong start for children getting ready for school, and preventing vulnerable youth from dropping out, ensuring that seniors and people with disabilities have access to the services required for them to stay in their homes and lead productive lives, and helping individuals and families work toward having a home of their own, access to affordable healthcare and a road to financial stability. In recognition of the critical role that nonprofits play in the county's health and human services delivery system, we continued supporting and strengthening nonprofit organizations. We cannot do this work alone; many community based partners join with us to better the lives of Mercer County citizens. Without them, we could not do all that we do.

United Way believes that everyone has a role in building a better future for all. Through LIVE UNITED we invite all Mercer County residents to help us shape community-wide change. Our partner organizations and community volunteers have answered our call to GIVE, ADVOCATE and VOLUNTEER. We are inspired by their participation and will continue to tackle the underlying causes of complex problems across our community.

On behalf of all of us at United Way of Greater Mercer County, thank you for your continued commitment and support.
