FAR TOO MANY OF OUR FAMILY, FRIENDS, CO-WORKERS AND NEIGHBORS WILL BE BURDENED BY THE FINANCIAL WAKE OF COVID-19.

As we navigate the uncertainty and volatility of this public health crisis, one thing holds true now more than ever: we are all in this together.

Canceled conferences, entertainment, and sporting events, in addition to plummeting sales at local businesses, are disproportionately impacting hourly workers in the service sector. Coupled with school closures that require extra child care expenses or lost time on the job, many working families are struggling to make rent and put food on the table.

A looming crisis for families is growing alongside the one in health care. Community resources will be inundated, food pantries will be in high demand, and calls for help are already pouring into our 211 centers. During this unparalleled moment in history, we are strengthening our commitment to address the immediate and urgent needs of all Mercer County residents—as well as longer-term challenges that will affect financial security, access to health and youth success outcomes across our community.

Our COVID-19 Compassion Fund will support struggling families in Mercer County financially impacted by the health crisis. Donations will support relief programs, like food pantries and other services to help with basic needs. We will continue to work with our partners to identify resource and service gaps and plan for long-term recovery.

This health crisis is a new challenge for us, but the community spirit required in response is not. For more than 80 years, joined by our supporters, we have faced crisis head-on, doing whatever is required to comfort and care for those in need.

Although social distancing separates us physically, we are still as connected to each other as ever. And we still have the power—as we did in days of old—to come together in hope and in generosity, to act when duty calls, to give with open hands and an open heart. We will thrive as a community by confronting this challenge together and taking care of one another.
